COLUMBUS, Ohio - U.S. Senator Rob Portman today released the following statement regarding Governor Ted Strickland entering the race for U.S. Senate:
"I welcome Governor Strickland back to Ohio and look forward to a candid exchange of ideas during this critical time for so many in our state," said Portman. "The coming months will give Ohioans an opportunity to contrast my vision for a better future for Ohio workers with his past tenure as governor when hundreds of thousands of jobs disappeared from our state.
"I'll continue fighting every day to expand opportunities for all Ohioans, working with both parties to reduce barriers to job growth and to create better paying jobs," Portman continued. "Ohio families deserve a senator who will fight for their future and they can't afford to go backward with Governor Strickland."
The Portman for Senate campaign announced last week that it has received 5,000 grassroots endorsements from people across Ohio, including over 500 endorsements from elected Republican officials from every corner of the state.
The Portman for Senate campaign entered 2015 with $5.8 million cash on hand and has the support of the entire Ohio Republican Congressional delegation, all statewide elected officials, and nearly 90 percent of Ohio House and Senate Republican members.
