COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Portman for Senate campaign today released their latest web ad, "Defending Ohio Jobs." The ad is part of an ongoing, six-figure digital ad buy highlighting Rob Portman's focus on delivering results for Ohio workers and families. In 2013, ArmorSource, a military combat helmet manufacturer in Hebron, was struggling to make ends meet until Rob Portman stepped in.
ArmorSource’s state-of-the-art helmets weigh less than their competitors' helmets and are less expensive to make – but their competitors lobbied Congress to keep existing contracts without a fair and open bidding process. As you will see in the video – which will begin playing statewide online today – ArmorSource contacted Rob Portman who stepped in and took up the fight. Rob’s fight helped secure more than 200 Ohio jobs.
“We contacted Rob Portman to make sure that we got an equal chance at getting the contract. He made sure that there was a fair and open bidding process and he made sure that our community had a chance,” said Terry Dickson, co-owner of ArmorSource. “Because of his hard work we have another 200 jobs in our community. He is the type of leader Ohio needs in the United States Senate. He cares about the people of Ohio, and he has the ability to get things done for Ohio workers and families."
“Without ArmorSource we would have a lot more people in the unemployment line. We wouldn’t have pulled this together without Rob Portman. He is a hard worker and he doesn’t quit. Rob’s got a zeal and he’s got a fire in him to help those in Ohio. He’s definitely on the side of Ohio workers,” said Dan Yates, ArmorSouce manufacturer.
“Ohio is home to some of the greatest manufactures in our nation, which is why I was proud to step in and make sure ArmorSource had a fair chance. Having visited their facilities and seen first hand their tremendous product, I know without a doubt that they are the best choice when it comes to protecting our troops in harm’s way,” said Rob Portman. “It’s workers like those at ArmorSource and throughout our entire state that I will continue to stand up for and fight hard to keep in business.”
“Hebron Company Awarded Military Helmet Contract, Hiring 250 People” (WBNS-10TV, 8/14/13): “A central Ohio company has been awarded a $92 million contract to make lightweight, advanced combat helmets for the military… ArmorSource says the new helmets weigh 4 ounces less than current combat helmets, while providing "superior protection" to the men and women in uniform... Republican U.S. Sen. Rob Portman was on hand for Wednesday's announcement.”
“More jobs coming to Hebron” (The Buckeye Lake Beacon, 8/17/13): “Sen. Rob Portman visited ArmorSource Wednesday for the announcement of a $93 million contract to manufacture lightweight advanced combat helmets for the U.S. Army.”
“Defending Ohio Jobs”
Terry Dickson: At ArmorSource we make stronger and lighter helmets to save people’s lives. We knew that we could make a better helmet than our competitors. Our competitors knew that too. They knew that we could make a lighter helmet than they could. They knew that we could beat their price. Our competitors are very well connected politically and they were lobbying to put a heavier helmet on our soldiers and they didn’t want to have a fair and open biding process. That’s all we wanted was a fair chance. We contacted Rob Portman to make sure that we had an equal chance at getting the contract. Rob Portman made sure that there was a fair and open bidding process. He made sure that our community had a chance at getting the contract and because of that we have another 200 jobs in our community. He stood behind us and went to bat for Ohio jobs.
Dan Yates: It means a lot to me that I have this job. I think without ArmorSource we would have a lot more people on the unemployment line.
Kacey Rees: It brought hundreds of jobs to the town. It means a lot to have that job security and to not have to struggle from paycheck to paycheck.
Dan Yates: I don’t think that we would have pulled this together without Rob Portman. He’s a hard worker. He don’t quit. He’s got a zeal, he’s got a fire in him to help Americans. He’s got a zeal and a fire in him for those in Ohio.
Kacey Rees: Senator Rob Portman cares about the people in his community. He made a big difference.
Dan Yates: He is definitely on the side of Ohio workers. If he’s got your back, he’s got your back. I trust him very much.
Terry Dickson: He cared about our soldiers and he cared about our taxpayers. Rob Portman made a difference for our community.
