CLARK COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) –Senator Portman spoke with Navistar workers today at the Clark County plant. He said progress made with new jobs at the facility is a sign of improvement for the economy.
“America is at its best when we’re building things. And Ohio is a manufacturing state, so we have to make sure we’re bringing manufacturing back. It’s starting to happen. This plant is an example of that. Washington’s not doing a very good job of helping.”
Senator Portman is working on lowering tax rates to make sure Ohio’s manufacturing jobs are competitive nationally and globally. He says that current tax rates are too high to compete on a global scale, and it’s as if the companies have one hand tied behind their back.
He also wants to open up more public lands and improve pipelines to lower costs for manufacturing companies. One issue addressed was the need to use local natural gas to lower costs for local companies.
