Times Gazette Endorses Rob Portman
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following three key newspaper endorsements from Cleveland, Akron, and Youngstown last weekend and from Lima, Wheeling, Tiffin, and Chillicothe this weekend, the Portman for Senate Campaign announced that the Times Gazette out of Hillsboro also endorsed Rob Portman for U.S. Senate. The Times Gazette highlighted Rob's work to fight the heroin and prescription drug epidemic and solve issues affecting the local community including the expansion of PAS Technologies. The editorial said that Rob has been "very attentive to Highland County, working closely with local leaders on several initiatives." Of Ted Strickland, the Times Gazette said, "he offers local voters no compelling reason why he should replace Republican Rob Portman in the U.S. Senate."
The latest endorsement comes the same week as the Portman for Senate campaign released its latest web ad, "Newspapers Agree," highlighting this month's endorsements of Rob by (in chronological order) the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Columbus Dispatch, the Akron Beacon Journal, the Youngstown Vindicator, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The Akron, Youngstown, Cleveland, and Columbus papers previously endorsed Strickland for governor and some endorsed Rob's Democratic opponent in 2010. The newspapers highlighted Rob as a "superior candidate," pointing to his record of results for Ohio, including his work to combat both the heroin epidemic and human trafficking, as well as Strickland's failure to "offer his own clear road maps," saying "it's hard to believe Strickland could make a difference in the Senate."

U.S. Senate: Rob Portman
October 21, 2016
While former Gov. Ted Strickland, a Democrat, is a southern Ohio native who is well-regarded here even by many Republicans, he offers local voters no compelling reason why he should replace Republican Rob Portman in the U.S. Senate. Portman’s career-long focus on fighting illegal drugs and his devotion to rehabilitation and reentry for those who overcome drug addiction is extremely pertinent in southern Ohio. Portman has also been very attentive to Highland County, working closely with local leaders on several initiatives, including the expansion of PAS Technologies.
