NFIB Endorses Rob Portman

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Today, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) – the nation’s leading advocate for small business owners – endorsed Rob Portman’s re-election campaign for the U.S. Senate.  Following an event at Ohio Transmission Corporation (OTC) in Columbus, Rob Portman, NFIB President and CEO Juanita Duggan, and NFIB Vice President and Ohio’s Executive Director Roger Geiger issued these statements:

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy.  As a small business owner myself, I’m honored to receive the NFIB’s endorsement,” said Rob Portman. “This Senate race offers the voters of Ohio a clear choice: a brighter future with my pro-growth policies for better wages and more jobs or a return to Ted Strickland’s failed policies of higher taxes, burdensome regulations, and bigger government. While Ted Strickland continues to hide from his awful record as governor when Ohio lost more than 350,000 jobs and ranked 48th in job creation, I will continue to fiercely advocate for Ohio’s small businesses.”

“We’re grateful that Senator Portman is working to keep small businesses in Ohio healthy and growing,” said NFIB CEO and President Juanita Duggan. “He knows the struggles that small business owners go through having watched his own family’s business thrive. We need him back in the Senate.”

“Senator Rob Portman has been a true friend to Ohio small business owners.  He is always willing to listen to their thoughts and concerns and cares about helping our economy,” said Roger Geiger, Vice President and Ohio’s Executive Director of NFIB/Ohio.

Earlier this year, the Portman for Senate Campaign launched an interactive website detailing Governor Ted Strickland’s failed record as governor. The website, OhioLostJobs.com, allows users to search or click on each of Ohio’s 88 counties and see how many jobs were lost under Ted Strickland’s watch. You can click HERE to check it out.

Rob Portman's Record of Job Creation
Rob Portman has passed nearly 50 bills into law.

Rob passed legislation to improve worker retraining programs, and improve Ohio's workforce to help better connect job seekers with employers.

Rob passed federal permitting reform legislation to streamline and improve the federal permitting process in order to remove uncertainty and unpredictability that hinders investment, economic growth, and job creation.

Rob fought for legislation to stop unnecessary regulations and red tape that hold back Ohio small businesses.

In an effort to increase jobs for American manufactures, Portman introduced the American Manufacturing Competitiveness Act.

Rob’s bipartisan energy efficiency bill, which he introduced alongside Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), is expected to create more than 200,000 jobs and greatly reduce carbon emissions equivalent to taking 20 million cars off the road.

When Ohio’s job creators call Rob, he is ready to help. Gregory Industries, a guardrail manufacturer in Canton, faced possible closure when a competitor hired a lobbyist to effectively eliminate their product through language in federal legislation. Rob stepped in and led the charge to save the company's 125 jobs. Earlier this year, the Portman for Senate Campaign released this ad regarding Gregory Industries:
